Social Media: Use it for Business
I focus a lot of my attention on social media. Mainly because I want to make social media my career one day. Everyone is connected through at least one social account. Most people have two or three social accounts that they manage. The need to be connected is growing. Specifically, in the business realm, it has become a necessity. It's not enough to target people with print media and physical advertisements. Businesses are having to learn how to use social media to effectively promote their brand. This is super important information for people like me. The almost-graduates, the recent graduates, and the brand new college students will all need to know social media from the inside out. What are some ways that we can use social media for business? I've got a few suggestions of my own. I research "social media for business" all day long. These seem to be the most important takeaways from everything I've read so far.
1. Collect an audience.
Followers are not just a number anymore. They have to be active and engaging with your business to count for something. Social media makes it easy to collect an audience of people. You can send messages out quickly to your followers and monitor their engagement. Using social media to collect an audience will give you viewers who have opted into your communication. It's very similar to subscribers. This audience wants to hear what you have to say. Use social media wisely to gain loyal followers and you'll be able to capitalize on it.
2. Send messages to target audiences.
Many news agencies have started to use Twitter more and more. Twitter is one of the fastest ways to get information to the public. A lot of people use FaceBook to announce big news to their friends and family. It's a little more personal. Various forms of social media produce different audiences. By segmenting your audience and figuring out which channel is best to target those people, you can get the right information to the perfect customer. Facebook is great for targeting parents and people who have a household to buy for. It's also great for a more meaningful post or a more personal approach to communication. Twitter is perfect for quick news. It's less connected emotionally, and more about the fast pace of the Internet. Instagram is great for any visual business. Food, travel, and other graphic businesses should have an Instagram to entice viewers to want your products.
3. Respond to customers quickly.
Social media is perfect for responding to customers in a transparent way. Everyone can see comments between you and a customer online. Always use social media to build better relationships. If something goes wrong with a customer, fix it immediately. Don't ever blame them for a problem because consumers want to see you take the responsibility. Do whatever you can to reply to every comment and every concern. By doing this out in the open, other onlookers will begin to associate your brand with a personal touch. You seem connected to your fan base and show others how you care for your customers by solving their problems. This is a great way to increase loyalty.
4. Create brand preference.
Creating brand preference is tough work. It takes a lot of planning and development. You have to think of everything from a certain perspective to stay consistent. Usually, brands would have to go to great lengths to be present in their consumers' minds. With social media, if you can gain a following, you can stay relevant 24/7. For example, food brands would advertise in markets and other stores where their target audience could be found. Now, these brands not only target consumers in-store but also out of the store on social media. Alcohol companies are a great example. They post images of their products online and when a consumer sees this, they remember which brand they saw most. The next time they need that type of product, they'll most likely choose the brand they see every day on social media. Brands can use social media to always stay relevant in a customer's mind.
Social media can bring you a whole new type of customer. You can stay connected with these new customers and maintain a positive brand position with a social presence. Businesses need to incorporate social media into their marketing plans. Almost everyone is on some form of social media. The reach of social media alone is more than enough to entice business owners to focus on mobile marketing. Be creative and pay attention to trending subjects. Follow your customers closely and learn what they expect from you, then give it to them. A business hoping to capture the attention of future consumers needs social media now. Use it to grow your business and push you forward.
