Florida Vacation 2017: Legoland, Universal, Old Town, and more!

After eight long days in the Florida heat, I sure am glad to be a little farther north! My family and I just wrapped up our big summer vacation for this year. We went all over the sunshine state during this trip, however, our first stop was in Savanah, Georgia for one night to enjoy the famous southern city and break up the drive. We left early the next morning and had a late lunch at Daytona Beach on the pier. From there, we headed straight to Kissimmee, Florida, where our resort was.

Since we had a week full of fun and adventure, the first day at our resort was a "do whatever we want" kind of day. Tucker, my nephew, wanted to go swimming in the resort's pool, so we broke out our swim suits and some sunscreen. The heat down here is intense, but luckily no one burned.

That evening, we tried to go to Old Town, but there was a giant, scary cloud over Old Town. Soon, our phones buzzed with Tornado warnings, and we drove away as fast as we could. We made our way down the road a few miles to a giant, Super Target to get some groceries and wait out the storm.

The next night, we were able to go to Old Town, minus the Tornado scares. Old Town is a little area with tons of old fashioned stores and restaurants. They have one of those carnival-style amusement parks right next door to entertain the kids. Tucker had a blast on the bumper cars and sliding down the big slide.

We dedicated one day to an air boat ride. We drove to Wild Florida, where we had book tickets for an hour long tour on the air boat. we saw baby alligators swimming in our path and lots of tall grass. Our driver even took us back into the giant cypress tree forest in the back of the water hole we were riding on. The air boat was such a fun experience. we literally just rode right over the water and all of the tall grass. The driver old us he has a small airboat that can just drive right on solid land!

The rest of our week we alternated between Legoland and Universal. Legoland of course was all about Tucker. It's not really a park for adults only, but it was still a lot of fun. They have some cool roller coasters and tons of legos of course. Everything was made of legos and they featured various parts of the lego collections. The coolest part was MiniLand, where they build prominent monuments out of legos for cities like New York, San Fransisco, and Las Vegas. They even had a cool Star wars section, which Stephan absolutely loved.

Universal Studios was much better for the adult crowd. We spent an entire day roaming around the Island of Adventures park and another full day in the main Universal Studies park side. The first ride we tackled was the massive green Hulk coaster. (I was terrified, but Stephan insisted.) I, of course, was most excited for Hogwarts and Diagon Alley.

We managed to ride everything in both parks. My favorite part, though, was eating the yummy ice cream in Diagon Alley and opening our chocolate frog boxes to find a Dumbledore trading card. I'm a big Harry potter fan. I especially loved the fire breathing dragon and the Escape From Gringotts ride.

All in all, this family vacation was the perfect ending to my summer. Now, as a working adult, I won't have much time for fun. But, I am excited to finally be hired and start getting to know my new coworkers and the company. Hopefully the new job will work out. Stay tuned for a new post soon about moving to Greenville!
