A Colorful Afternoon

On Sunday, my sorority kicked off our philanthropy week with our annual color run. We've titled this bright event Sigma in Color. During philanthropy week, we work really hard to raise money for all of the organizations we support. For Tri Sigma, that would be the Sigma Sigma Sigma foundation and Mile of Dimes. The Sigma Sigma Sigma foundation supports leadership inside and outside of our membership. It also supports play therapy in hospitals through the Robbie Page Memorial Fund. Our national organization also just added March of Dimes to our philanthropy this year. March of Dimes helps support families by helping with babies born prematurely.

Throughout philanthropy week our chapter works really hard to earn as much as we can. All of the money we earn is sent out to the organizations we support. We host various events throughout the week in order to raise awareness of our philanthropy and collect donations. This week is a big deal to our chapter and to other Greek chapters on campus. It's the time of year where we work to support our whole purpose of giving back to the charities we care deeply about. That's what being in a sorority is all about. Friendships, fun events, and cute merchandise are all just extra bonuses to the greater cause we serve. Each Greek organization on campus has their own philanthropy week dedicated to their partners.

Sigma in Color was one of our biggest events and this year we were pumped to have had 91 people sign up. I really loved this event because it was a lot of fun. Last year, I decided to run the actual race. This year I helped man a color station instead. I must say throwing color at people was a lot more fun than running. Plus, we got ourselves colored while we waited for runners to get back to our station. It was a great experience I shared with my sisters. Plus, the Insta photos after this event are always the cutest.

If you've ever thought about participating in a color run, I highly recommend it. This is truly my favorite event to have been a part of on campus. We used this chalk-like powder to color everyone during our run. There's pink, purple, green, blue, and yellow powder. All of them wash right out. It only took two shampoos to get the color out of my hair and my white shirt is already pure white again after just one wash cycle. There's literally no risk of staining your skin or any of your clothing items. So, get out there and live colorfully!
