Aliens, Trampolines, and New Sisters
The first two weeks of school have been so busy. I started off the semester with sorority recruitment, which required hours of practicing cheers, conversations, and more. Formal recruitment is a unique process that has been a ton of fun. Getting to know so many new people and welcoming new sisters into our sorority has been a long, but incredibly rewarding process. During recruitment, you speed-talk with multiple girls and try to judge if they will fit into your chapter or not. They are also judging you, wondering if your sorority is right for them.
But, the best part is the end of recruitment; it is called Bid Day. Bid Day is the day that all the girls going through recruitment get their bid from the sorority that chose them. They all run into the arms of their new sisters and spend the day celebrating with food and fun activities. My sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma, welcomed our new sisters with aliens and pizza. Let me explain: Each sorority picks a theme for their Bid Day and this year we chose, "Sigma is out of this world." All the current members dressed up like space babes and aliens from other planets to welcome our new sisters.
Our amazing Bid Day coordinator also organized the best activity for the day. We all went to the trampoline park Air-bound, in Greensboro. I had never been to a trampoline park before; I was pretty excited to try it out. Once I got there I knew I was hooked. It was amazing. There was a huge area with nothing but trampolines on the floor and all along the walls. To the right of that, there was a foam pit with trampolines going into it. They even had battle zones where you fight someone on a beam until one of you fell into the squishy, side area and a dodge ball pit with trampolines everywhere. This place made me feel like a 5-year old again. I couldn't wait to start jumping around and getting my front flips on.
I really enjoyed this day with my friends and all our new sisters. I loved the trampoline park, but I was extremely tired when we got home. It took about five minutes to feel the energy draining from my body, but I continued jumping for almost the whole hour. I ended my trampoline park experience with a Coca-Cola icee. After this, we all went home and took a break. I showered to wash the glitter and pink dye out of my hair. We then met up with some of our new sisters and ate at La Has, a popular Mexican restaurant near campus.
This day is always exciting, but sadly it'll be my last bid day. As we approach May, graduation is inching closer. I am excited to start the next chapter of my life with graduate school and marriage, but it will be hard to let go of my undergraduate years. I've been blessed with such wonderful friends through Sigma and I know I'm going to miss being an active member of the chapter. Luckily, I'll still be at HPU for the graduate program and I can still spend time with some of my sisters next year. The memories I've made on this bid day will surely last a lifetime. I hope there are even greater memories ahead of me.
